From Stigma to Support

In Cincinnati, a new initiative is making waves in the mental health community. The Black Men’s Support Group, spearheaded by Dr. Ritch Hall II and hosted by Psychworks LLC, is a vital resource aimed at addressing the unique challenges faced by Black men. Research shows that Black men are the least likely demographic to seek mental health services, yet they experience depression and anxiety at rates equal to or higher than their white counterparts.

This support group is designed to create a safe, judgment-free space where Black men can open up about their struggles, share experiences, and build connections. Meeting every 3rd Saturday of the month at the Heart of Northside, this group offers brotherhood, discussion circles, and a support network tailored to the needs of Black men in Cincinnati.

Dr. Hall recognized the urgent need for such a group after observing the increasing demand for mental health services in the area but finding few options tailored specifically to Black men. The group provides a welcoming environment where participants can break through stigmas and barriers surrounding masculinity and mental health.

The cost to attend is $40 per session, but financial assistance is available through scholarships and sliding scales, ensuring that cost is never a barrier. Dr. Hall is committed to making mental health resources more accessible to this underserved demographic, and he hopes that the group will be the first step in changing the conversation around mental health for Black men in the community.

Psychworks LLC, co-led by Dr. Ritch Hall II and Latonia Whipple, Ph.D., offers more than just the support group. The clinic provides a range of services, including individual therapy, consultation services, and virtual therapy options that are accessible from anywhere. With their involvement in PSYPACT, Psychworks can offer their services across 42 states, expanding their reach and impact.

This Black Men’s Support Group is more than just a meeting—it’s a movement toward better mental health and stronger community ties. If you or someone you know could benefit from this group, don’t hesitate to reach out and take the first step toward a healthier, more connected future.
