E-Waste to High Speed

It’s not every day that a telecom company becomes a leader in both technological connectivity and environmental responsibility—but this week, altafiber is doing just that. As part of its commitment to Earth Month, altafiber is launching a Free Electronic Waste Recycling Event from Thursday, April 24 through Sunday, April 27, inviting residents of Greater Cincinnati and Dayton to bring their old, unused, and even broken electronic devices to any of its local retail locations. And in a digital age where gadgets go obsolete almost as quickly as they debut, this kind of initiative couldn’t come at a better time.

We’ve all got that drawer. You know the one—stuffed with tangled cords, retired smartphones, defunct remotes, and maybe even a printer from the early Obama years. Now, instead of letting that clutter collect dust or worse, contributing to toxic landfill waste, altafiber is offering a clean, free solution. During this four-day event, you can recycle everything from phones and laptops to flat screen TVs, headphones, routers, modems, keyboards, and even small home appliances. But don’t just haul your entire attic. There are a few rules: altafiber won't accept tube TVs or CRT monitors, printer ink cartridges, batteries, light bulbs, or anything over 40 pounds. So leave the ancient Sony Trinitron in your basement for now. Another heads-up: you'll need to carry everything in yourself—staff won't assist with unloading—and it's your responsibility to wipe your data before dropping devices off.

And while you're at it, it might be worth sticking around to see what else altafiber has going on. With retail locations spanning Anderson, Kenwood, Dayton, Florence, West Chester, Jungle Jim’s, Lebanon, and Western Hills (excluding the Atrium II downtown Cincinnati location), these stores are not just customer service hubs—they’re full-service experience centers. Beyond Earth Month, altafiber’s retail spaces are evolving into high-touch, high-tech community hubs. Need help setting up fiber internet? Want a live product demo or to troubleshoot a streaming issue? altafiber reps are trained to assist with everything from sign-ups for new service to bill payments, all while giving customers a firsthand look at the connected future they’re helping build.

And that future is fiber. At a time when working from home, streaming, and smart home integration are the norm, altafiber is doubling down on the infrastructure that makes it all possible—fast, stable, environmentally efficient fiber-optic technology. Fiber internet, unlike traditional copper-based systems, uses less energy, has a longer lifespan, and reduces the need for frequent hardware replacement. In other words, altafiber is tackling sustainability not just through recycling drives—but by providing services that naturally minimize waste.

What’s especially exciting is the way this Earth Month initiative reinforces altafiber’s broader ethos: local focus, long-term thinking. While tech giants make headlines with flashy devices and endless upgrades, altafiber is leaning into community-level action. Hosting events like this recycling drive shows that meaningful environmental impact doesn’t always need a global footprint—it just needs a local commitment and a well-placed bin.

So whether you’re finally parting ways with your first digital camera, making room in your garage, or simply wanting to do right by the planet, altafiber’s Earth Month event is your moment. Recycle responsibly. Connect intentionally. And maybe, just maybe, make your junk drawer a little less intimidating.
